Oakley Flight Deck vs Path vs Tracker Snow Goggles

Oakley produce some some of the most popular and highest quality snow goggles on the market. Three of their most popular models are the Flight Deck, Flight Path and Flight Tracker, but what is the difference between them? Let’s take an in-depth look…

Oakley Flight Deck and Flight Path goggles both have spherical lenses and are more expensive compared to Flight Tracker goggles which have toric lenses. Flight Deck goggles have a frame-less design, Flight Path goggles have a partial frame and Flight Tracker goggles have a full-frame.

There are several key similarities between the Flight Deck, Path and Tracker goggles:

  • Adjustable strap with a silicone grip on the inside
  • Triple-layer face foam
  • Anti-fog lens coating
  • Top and bottom venting

Flight Deck vs Path vs Tracker

There are five key differences between these three goggles:

  • Frame design
  • Lens shape
  • Size options
  • Price
  • Colour options

Frame Design

One of the main aspects that differs between these three goggles is the rim design.

  • Flight Deck – rimless design
  • Flight Path – semi-rimless design (no rim on the bottom but a rim on the top and sides)
  • Flight Tracker – full rim design

It’s really a personal preference as to whether you prefer the look and feel of framed vs frame-less goggles. The frame helps to provide more protection from the elements, whereas the frame-less design provides a wider field of view.

Lens Shape

The Flight Deck and Flight Path both have a spherical lens, whereas the Flight Tracker has a toric lens.

Spherical lenses curve on the horizontal and vertical axis and form a bubble shape. The advantages of spherical lenses are they they reduce glare and distortion on the edges, and provide a large surface area so don’t fog up very easily.

Toric lenses are a cross between spherical and cylindrical lenses. Toric lenses have some degree of curvature in the vertical plane so they are not as flat as cylindrical lenses but not as curved much as spherical lenses. This helps to provide a wider peripheral view, but with less distortion compared to cylindrical lenses.

Size Options

Finally, the size options are different for each type of goggle:

  • Flight Tracker: available in three sizes (L, M, and S)
  • Flight Deck: available in two sizes (L and M)
  • Flight Path: only available in L

Note: previously the sizes were referred to as XL/ XM/ XS. Oakley recently dropped the “X” to make the sizes more clear so they just refer to small, medium and large.

Of course, the large goggles are designed for larger heads/ faces, whilst the medium and small goggles are designed for average and smaller heads/ faces.

Here’s the difference in dimensions between each goggle type:

Goggle SizeFlight TrackerFlight DeckFlight Path
L (Large)19 cm x 11 cm17.5 cm x 10.5 cm 18 cm x 11 cm
M (Medium) 17.5 cm x 10 cm 17 cm x 9.5 cmNot Available
S (Small)15 cm x 9.5 cmNot AvailableNot Available

As you can see from the table, not only are different size options available for each type of goggles, but the dimensions within each size classification also differ.

The Flight Tracker model offers the largest and smallest both in terms of width and height, compared to the Flight Path and Flight Deck. The Flight Deck L is slightly smaller than the Flight Path L. This is due to the rim design.

The strap thickness also differs according to the size of the goggles. The “L” versions have a 50 mm thick strap, whereas the “M” and “S” straps are 40 mm thick.

Price Difference

The Oakley Flight Deck and Flight Path goggles are typically a very similar price, whereas the Oakley Flight Deck goggles are usually around $50 or £50 cheaper.
